If the psychosis occurs only during delirium then the diagnosis psychotic disorder due to another medical condition would not be made. If a neurocognitive condition is present and physiologically causes hallucinations and delusions then this diagnosis would be appropriate.

This can include medicines, drugs, and alcohol related side-effects. If the symptoms occur during or within 4 weeks of intoxication, then the substance/medication-induced psychotic disorder diagnosis should be considered.
