Results: Characteristics and outcome of pregnant women admitted to hospital with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection in UK: national population based cohort study
- responses from all 194 hospitals
- 630 women with confirmed infection and pregnancy of which 92% returned data and, after accounting for errors, duplicates and outpatient reports, the sample consisted of 427 pregnant women -most systems show at about the third trimester, the most common being fever, cough, and breathlessness
- admission incidence varied with ethnic groups, age, and BMI
- 266 women gave birth or had a pregnancy loss while the other 161 had ongoing pregnancy throughout the study
- 10% of women need level 3 critical care; 4 of which receive oxygen, 27 with worsened breathing, 33 gave birth and 8 were still pregnant
- 3 women admitted to critical care died due to complications of COVID-19
- of the 262 women who gave birth, 53 births were iatrogenic preterm due to either maternal COVID-19, fetal compromise or some other condition -29 women received general anesthesia, 18 of which were intubated for respiratory compromise
