Rods
Rods are a type of photoreceptor cell found throughout the retina, outside of the fovea. They are specialized for vision in low-light conditions. Unlike cones, rods do not perceive color and have lower spatial resolution, but they are crucial for seeing in dimly lit environments and for detecting movement in the peripheral visual field.

Comparison of Rods and Cones
An amateur astronomer observes that a very faint star is easier to see when they don't look directly at it, but rather use their peripheral vision. Which statement provides the best analysis for why this occurs, based on the properties of the light-detecting cells in the eye?
