Romanticism as a Reaction to Industrialization

Romanticism, a major artistic, literary, and intellectual movement, emerged in part as a reaction against the Industrial Revolution. Romantics often criticized the perceived negative effects of industrialization, such as the destruction of nature, the poor conditions of the urban working class, and the emphasis on rationalism and materialism. They instead celebrated emotion, individualism, and the sublime beauty of the natural world.
