Jami characterizes Hasan Dehlavi's distinctive manner in the ghazal through a set of technically demanding choices whose combination is what gives his verse its special quality (halat):

• Tight rhymes (qafiyeh-ha-ye tang)
• Unusual, strange radifs (radif-ha-ye gharib)
• Pleasant, smoothly flowing meters (bahr-ha-ye khosh-ayande)

Jami treats these three as the essentials of poetry, and of the ghazal above all. Because Hasan gathers them together, his verse appears easy at first glance yet is hard to actually compose. For this reason critics labeled it sahl-e momtane — the facile-impossible, or effortlessly inimitable — a central term of Persian literary criticism for poetry that reads as simple but resists imitation.

Jami adds that Hasan was a contemporary and companion of Khosrow Dehlavi, and that Hasan himself conceded his speech was not like Khosrow's.
