Sanai's Critique of Material Pride and Fine Clothing

In Section 16 of Sanai's Hadiqat al-Haqiqah, the poet criticizes those who take pride in luxurious clothing and indulgent food. He emphasizes that the fundamental purpose of clothing is simply to cover physical nakedness, not to serve as a status symbol or a source of vanity. Sanai contrasts the superficiality of ornate garments, such as silk and brocade, with the spiritual integrity found in humility and worn clothes. This section reinforces the Sufi ascetic ideal that true nobility and inner purity are often obscured by material attachments and the ego's desire for outward adornment.
