بخش ۱۶ - اندر مذمّت کسانی که به جامه و لقمه مغرور باشند / Section 16 - In Condemnation of Those Who Are Proud of Clothing and Morsels
متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation
| جامه از بهر عورت عامه است | خاصگان را برهنگی جامه است |
| Garments are for the nakedness of the common people For the elect, nakedness is their garment | |
| مر زنان راست جامه اندر خور | حیدر و مرد و جوشن اندر بر |
| Garments are fitting and proper for women Haidar and the man wear a coat of mail on their breast | |
| جامه بر عورتان پسندیدست | جامهٔ دیبه آفت دیدست |
| Clothing is approved for women The garment of brocade is an affliction to the sight | |
| مرد را در لباس خلقان جوی | گنج در کنجهای ویران جوی |
| Seek the man in tattered clothes Seek the treasure in ruined corners | |
| مر زنان راست جامه تو بر تو | مرد را روز نو و روزی نو |
| For women there are garments fold upon fold For the man, a new day and a new provision | |
| چون نباشد ملامت و اتعاظ | بس بود جامهٔ برهنه حفاظ |
| Since there is no reproach and admonition The garment of nakedness is sufficient protection | |
| مر زنان را برهنگی جامه است | خاصه آن را که شوخ و خودکامه است |
| For women, nakedness is their garment Especially the one who is insolent and self-willed | |
| نیست زن را به جامه خانهٔ هوش | به ز عریانی ایچ عورت پوش |
| The woman does not have a house of intellect in her garment Better than nakedness is any cover for the private parts | |
| عورتانند جاهلان که و مه | هرکه پوشیده تر ز عورت به |
| The ignorant ones, whether great or small, are nakedness Whoever is more covered from nakedness is better | |
| باقیی در بقای معنی کوش | پنبه رو بازده به پنبه فروش |
| Strive to remain in the permanence of meaning Give the cotton back to the cotton-seller | |
| چکند عقل جامهٔ زیبا | نقش دیبا چه داند از دیبا |
| What does the intellect do with beautiful clothes What does the painted figure on brocade know of brocade | |
| چه کشی از پی هوس تن را | گرمی عشق جامه بس تن را |
| Why do you drag the body after desire The warmth of love is sufficient clothing for the body | |
| دین به زیر کلاه داری تو | زان هوای گناه داری تو |
| You keep your religion hidden under your hat For that reason, you have the desire for sin | |
| با کلاه از هوای تن نجهی | سر پدید آید ار کله بنهی |
| With a hat, you will not escape the desires of the body The head will appear if you put down the hat | |
| چون سرآمد پدید در شبگیر | پای ذر نه عمارت از سر گیر |
| When the head appears at dawn Step forward and begin building anew | |
| یک شبی رو به وقت شبگیران | با حذر در نهان ز خر گیران |
| One night, go at the time of the early risers With caution, secretly away from the oppressors | |
| سر خود را پدید کن ز کلاه | توبه این است از گذشته گناه |
| Reveal your head from the hat This is repentance from past sins | |
| چه شد ار بر سر تو افسر نیست | خرد اندر سرست و بر سر نیست |
| What does it matter if there is no crown on your head Intellect is inside the head and not upon the head | |
| نقش آنها کز اهل محرابند | در جریدهٔ مجردان یابند |
| The mark of those who belong to the mihrab They will find in the register of the detached | |
| آنکه نقش کلاه و سر دارند | زن و زنبیل و زور و زر دارند |
| Those who have the mark of hat and head Have a wife, a basket, power, and gold | |
| متأهل دو پای خود در بست | سر خود را به دست خود بشکست |
| The married man has tied his own two feet He has broken his own head with his own hands | |
| گر زید ور بمیرد آن بدبخت | رخت و بختش بماند زیر درخت |
| Whether that unfortunate one lives or dies His belongings and fortune will remain under the tree | |
| همچنین ژنده جامه باید بود | در خور عقل عامه باید بود |
| Thus one must be wearing tattered clothes One must be fitting for the intellect of the common masses | |
| کانکه از عقل عامه دور افتاد | آب عمرش بداد خاک به باد |
| For whoever falls far from the intellect of the masses The earth gave the water of his life to the wind | |
