بخش ۱۴ - فی المُجاهدة / Section 14 - On Spiritual Struggle

متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

چون تو از بود خویش گشتی نیستکمر جهد بند و در ره ایست
Since you have become non-existent to your own being,
Gird the belt of effort and stand on the path.
چون کمر بسته ایستادی توتاج بر فرق دل نهادی تو
Since you stood with a girded belt,
You placed a crown on the heart's head.
تاج اقبال بر سر دل نهپای ادبار بر خور و گل نه
Place the crown of fortune on the heart's head;
Step on adversity and put it in the mud.
گرت باید که سست گردد زهاولا پوستین به گازر ده
If you need the bowstring to become loose,
First, give the fur coat to the cleaner.
گرچه غافل برین عمل خنددلیک عاقل جز این بنپسندد
Though the heedless laughs at this action,
Yet the wise accepts nothing but this.
پوستین باز کن که تا در شاهپوستین در بسی است اندر راه
Open the fur coat so that at the King's door,
There are many fur-wearers along the path.
به نخستین قدم که زد آدمپوستینش درید گرگ ستم
At the first step that Adam took,
The wolf of tyranny tore his fur coat.
نه چو قابیل تشنه شد به جفاداد هابیل پوستین به فنا
Was it not that when Cain thirsted for cruelty,
Abel gave his fur coat to annihilation?
نه چو ادریس پوستین بفکنددر فردوس را ندید به بند
Was it not that when Enoch cast off his fur coat,
He saw the door of Paradise without any lock?
چون خلیل از ستاره و مه و خورپوستینها درید بی غم خور
When Abraham tore his fur coats
Without any grief, from stars, moon, and sun?
شب او همچو روز روشن شدنار نمرود تازه گلشن شد
His night became as bright as day,
And Nimrod's fire became a fresh rose garden.
به سلیمان نگر که از سر دادپوستین امل به گازر داد
Look at Solomon, who out of justice
Gave the fur coat of hope to the cleaner.
جن و انس و طیور و مور و ملخدر بن آب قلزم و سر شخ
Jinn, humans, birds, ants, and locusts,
Under the water of the Red Sea and on the mountain ridge,
روی او را همه رفیع شدندرای او را همه مطیع شدند
All became exalted towards his face,
And all became obedient to his counsel.
ز آتش دل چو سوخت آب نهادخاک بر دوش باد چرخ نهاد
When the water-like nature burned from the heart's fire,
He put dust on the shoulder of the wind of the heavens.
چون کلیم کریم غم پروردرخ به مدین نهاد با غم و درد
When Moses, the noble, nurtured in grief,
Turned his face towards Midian with sorrow and pain,
پوستین را ز روی مزدوریبرکشید از نهاد رنجوری
He pulled off the fur coat of hired service
Out of his suffering nature.
کرده ده سال چاکری شعیبتا گشادند بر دلش در غیب
He served Jethro for ten years,
Until the door of the Unseen opened to his heart.
دست او همچو چشم بینا شدپای او تاج فرق سینا شد
His hand became like a seeing eye,
And his foot became the crown on the head of Sinai.
روح چون دم ز بحر روحانیزد و پذ رفت لطف ربانی
When the Spirit breathed from the spiritual ocean
And accepted the divine grace,
پوستین را به اولین منزلبفرستید سوی گازر دل
He sent the fur coat at the very first station
Towards the cleaner of the heart.
دل چو او را فر آلهی دادهم به خردیش پادشاهی داد
When the heart gave him divine glory,
It also gave him kingship in his childhood.
گشت بی او به قدرت ازلیاز ثناء خفی و لطف جلی
By eternal power, without him, he became
Exalted by hidden praise and manifest grace.
تن ابرص از او چو سایهٔ فرشچشم اکمه ازو چو پایهٔ عرش
Through him, the leper's body became like the shadow of the floor,
And the blind eye became like the base of the Throne.
هرکه چون او به نام جوید ننگاز یکی خم برآورد ده رنگ
Whoever like him seeks shame in fame,
Will bring forth ten colors from a single vat.
پشک با او چو مشک شد بویازنده کردار مردگان گویا
Dung became fragrant like musk through him,
And the dead spoke like the living.
گل دل را زلطف جان سر کرددل گل را ز دست جان درکرد
He made the clay of the heart sprout by the grace of the soul,
And he drew the heart of the clay out by the hand of the soul.
چون دکان را به مهر کرد قضادست تقدیر در نشیب فنا
When destiny sealed the shop,
With the hand of fate in the descent of annihilation,
ماند عالم پر از هوا و هوسگشت بازار پر عوان و عسس
The world remained full of desire and whim,
And the market became full of oppressors and watchmen.
شحنه ای را ز بهر دفع ستمبفرستاد اندرین عالم
He sent a prefect to this world
In order to repel tyranny.
چون شد از آسمان دل ظاهرهم به جان مست و هم به تن ظاهر
When he appeared from the sky of the heart,
Intoxicated in soul and manifest in body,
پوستین خود نداشت در ره دینپس چه دادی به گازران زمین
He himself had no fur coat in the path of religion,
So what could he have given to the cleaners of the earth?
از فنا چون سوی بقا آمدزینت و زیب این فنا آمد
When he came from annihilation to subsistence,
He became the ornament and beauty of this ephemeral world.
هرکه گشت از برای او خاموشسخن او حیات باشد و نوش
Whoever became silent for his sake,
His speech would be life and sweet nectar.
گر نگوید ز کاهلی نبودور بگوید ز جاهلی نبود
If he does not speak, it is not from laziness,
And if he speaks, it is not from ignorance.
دیدی ای خواجهٔ سخن فربهکه ترا در دل از سخن فر به
Did you see, O master of plump speech,
That you have grandeur in your heart from speech?
در خموشی نبوده لهو اندیشگاه گفتن نبوده لغو پریش
In silence, he was not thinking of amusement;
At the time of speaking, he was not uttering vain nonsense.
بسته از جد و جهد و عشق و طلببر گریبان روز دامن شب
By effort, striving, love, and seeking,
He bound the skirt of night to the collar of day.
روز و شب را به مسطر انصافتسویت داده به ز هرچه گزاف
He balanced day and night with the ruler of justice,
Better than any exaggeration.
از درونش چوبوی جان یابندبی زبانان همه زبان یابند
When they find the scent of life from his inside,
The tongueless will all find a tongue.
تو در این گفت من مدار شکیباز کن دیده بر گمار یکی
Have no doubt in this discourse of mine;
Open your eyes and pay attention.
در رهش خوانده عاشقان بر جانآیهٔ کل من علیها فان
On his path, lovers have recited upon their souls
The verse: 'Everyone upon it must pass away.'
آن سفیهان که دزد و طرارندعقل را بهر ره زدن دارند
Those fools who are thieves and cutpurses
Keep reason only to highway-rob.
صنع او عدل و حکمتست و جلیملک او قهر و عزتست و خفی
His handiwork is justice and wisdom, manifest;
His sovereignty is wrath and glory, hidden.
پیکر آب و گل ز قهرش عورلعبت چشم و دل ز کنهش کور
The form of water and clay is naked from His wrath,
The puppet of eye and heart is blind to His essence.
عقل آلوده از پی دیدارارنی گوی گشته موسی وار
The stained intellect, seeking the vision,
Has become like Moses, saying, 'Show me.'
چون برون آمد از تجلی پیکگفت در گوش او که تبت الیک
When the messenger emerged from the divine manifestation,
He whispered in his ear, 'I turn to You in repentance.'
صفت ذات او به علم بداننام پاکش هزار و یک برخوان
Know the attribute of His essence through knowledge;
Recite His holy names, one thousand and one.
وصف او زیر علم نیکو نیستهرچه در گوشت آمد آن او نیست
Describing Him under a banner is not good;
Whatever has come to your ear is not Him.
نقطه و خط و سطح با صفتشهست چون جسم و بعد و شش جهتش
Point, line, and surface, in relation to His attribute,
Are like body, dimension, and its six directions.
مبدع آن سه از ورای مکانخالق این سه از درون زمان
The originator of those three from beyond space,
The creator of these three from within time.
هیچ عاقل درو نبیند عیباو بداند درون عالم غیب
No wise person sees any fault in Him;
He knows what is within the unseen world.
مطلع بر ضمائر و اسرارنوز ناکرده بر دل تو گذار
Aware of consciences and secrets
Even before they pass through your heart.
