ذکر بر دوستان و کم سخنان
چه شماری بسان پیرزنان

جور با حکم او همه دادست
عمر بی یاد او همه بادست

آنک گریان ازوست خندان اوست
دل که بی یاد اوست سندان اوست

شدی ایمن چو نام او بردی
در طریقت قدم بیفشردی

تو به یادش چو گل زبان کن تر
تا دهانت کند چو گل پر زر

سیر جان کرد جان بخرد را
تشنه دل کرد عاشق خود را

یک زمان از درش مشو غایب
تا بود عزم و رای تو صایب

کار نادان کوته اندیش است
یاد کردن کسی که در پیش است

English translation

Remembrance is for friends and those of few words; Why do you count [prayers] like old women? Hardship under His decree is all justice; Life without His remembrance is but wind. He who weeps because of Him is the one who laughs; The heart that is without His remembrance is an anvil. You would find security if you uttered His name, And firmly planted your foot on the spiritual path. Moisten your tongue with His remembrance like a rose, So that He may fill your mouth with gold like a rose. He has satiated the soul of the wise, And made His lover thirsty at heart. Do not be absent from His door for a single moment, So that your resolve and judgment may be sound. It is the work of the ignorant and short-sighted, To recall someone who is already present before them.
