Section 27 - The Allegory

Original content

English translation

Remember this saying of that awakened one, The man of this path, Haydar the Repeated-Attacker: "Worship the Lord in prayer as if you see Him; And if you are not thus, then oh, help!" Worship Him in both worlds in such a way That you see Him with your own eyes. Even though your eye does not see Him, Your Creator indeed sees you. Remembrance is nowhere but on the path of struggle; Remembrance has no place in the assembly of witnessing. Though your guide at first was remembrance, It reaches a point where remembrance is like wind. For the diver inside the seas Seeks water, and yet the water overwhelms him. The ringdove is absent, saying "Where is He?" If you are present, why do you say "He"? Those who are present do not lament, due to awe; If your portion is absence, then lament. Hear the ringdove's lament of yearning, Buy its prepared state and taste for two barley-grains. For he who seeks the pleasure of the One Seeks the light of unity in the grave. His grave becomes a garden of Paradise, In his eyes, Paradise becomes ugly. You will become present only when, in the sanctuary, You are present in heart, not present in body. As long as you are in this domain of striving, You are either all back or all face. When a line or two has gone from this domain, The seeker's soul takes the reins of love. Whoever becomes pleased with themselves for a moment, Was bound for years to fire and smoke. Who is worthy of this essence and rank, Except the one who has the desire for true submission? To love and set out for that world, It is not a condition to talk of life. Dying is ignorance, and living is religion; Whatever they said, the essence of it is this. Those who are the men of this path, Are unaware of the grief of life and heart. When you pass from the world of running and striving, Seek the fountain of life there.
