نقش بند برون گلها اوست
نقش دان درون دلها اوست

صنع او را مقدمست عدم
ذات او را مسلم است قدم

تا ترا کبر تیز خشم نکرد
تا ترا چشم تو به چشم نکرد

پای طاووس اگر چو پر بودی
در شب و روز جلوه گر بودی

که تواند نگاشت در آدم
نقش بند قلم نگار قدم

عقل را کرده قایل سورت
مایه را کرده قابل صورت

مبدع هست و آنچ ناهست او
صانع دست و آنچ در دست او

قبلهٔ عقل صنع بی خللش
کعبهٔ شوق، ذات بی بدلش

عقل را داده راه بیداری
تو همی عقل را چه پنداری

سگ و سنگست گلخنی و رهی
تو چو لعل از برون حقه بهی

سیم بهر هزینه دارد شاه
لعل بهر خزینه دارد شاه

سیم زار از نهاد وارونست
لعل شاد از درون پرخونست

ساخت دولابی از زبرجد ناب
کوزه سیمین ببست بر دولاب

English translation

He is the painter of the exterior of flowers; He is the knower of the inner secrets of hearts. Non-existence is prior to His creation; Pre-eternity is assuredly established for His essence. Before pride makes you quick to anger, Before your own eye blinds you to reality, If the peacock's feet were like its feathers, It would display itself day and night. Who can paint such designs in humankind, Except the eternal Painter who guides the pen? He has made the intellect proclaim its sovereignty; He has made raw matter receptive to form. He is the creator of that which exists and that which does not; He is the maker of the hand and all that is in its grasp. His flawless creation is the Qibla of the intellect; His peerless essence is the Kaaba of yearning. He has guided the intellect toward awakening; What then do you think of the intellect? The ash-heater and the slave are like dogs and stones; You are like a ruby, finer than the outside of the casket. The king keeps silver for daily expenses; The king reserves the ruby for the treasury. Silver is pale and sorrowful due to its inverted nature; The ruby is joyful, even though its inside is filled with blood. He constructed a waterwheel out of pure chrysolite, And fastened silver pitchers to the waterwheel.
