نه بپرسید کاهلی ز علی
چون شنید از زبان دل گسلی
که بگوی ای امیر جان افروز
که شب تیره به بود یا روز
مرتضی گفت بشنو ای سایل
سوی ادبار خود مشو مایل
عاشقان را در این ره جانسوز
تبش راز به که تابش روز
هرکه دارد ره تبش در دل
در نماند پیاده در منزل
در جهانی که عشق گوید راز
نه تو مانی نه نیز عقل تو باز
English translation
Did not a lazy man ask Ali, when he heard from a heart-cleaving tongue, Saying, 'O soul-illuminating prince, tell me, is the dark night better, or the day?' Morteza said, 'Listen, O inquirer, do not incline toward your own spiritual decline. For lovers on this soul-burning path, the burning heat of the secret is better than the radiance of day. Whoever keeps the path of burning heat in their heart will not remain stranded on foot at the waystation. In the world where love speaks the secret, neither you will remain, nor your intellect will return.'
