هرکه را عون حق حصار شود
عنکبوتیش پرده دار شود

سوسماری ثنای او گوید
اژدهائی رضای او جوید

نعل او فرق عرش را ساید
لعل او زیب فرش را شاید

زهر در کام او شکر گردد
سنگ در دست او گهر گردد

هرکه او سر برین ستانه نهد
پای بر تارک زمانه نهد

عقل درمانده را بدین درخواند
زانکه درماند هرکه زین درماند

ترسم از جاهلی و نادانی
ناگهان بر صراط درمانی

جاهلی مر ترا به نار دهد
تا ترا کوک و کوکنار دهد

لقمه دیدی که مرد می خاید
گندمی زان میان برون آید

بوده پیش جراد و مرغ و ستور
دیده تاب خراس و تف تنور

داشته زیر آسیای تو پای
که نگه داشتش خدای خدای

از پی حفظ مال و نفس و نفس
او ترا بس تو کرده ای زو بس

من بگویم ترا به عقل و به هوش
گر ببندی تو پند من در گوش

سگ و زنجیر چون به دست آری
آهوی دشت را شکست آری

پس بدین اعتقاد و این اخلاص
از برای معاش و کسب خلاص

اعتماد تو بر سگ و زنجیر
بیش بینم که بر سمیع و بصیر

نور ایمانت را در این بنیاد
آهنی و سگی به غارت داد

English translation

Whoever has the aid of Truth (God) as a fortress, A spider becomes his curtain-keeper. A lizard speaks praise of him, A dragon seeks his pleasure. His horseshoe rubs against the crown of the Throne, His ruby lip is fit to adorn the earthly carpet. Poison in his mouth becomes sugar, Stone in his hand becomes a gem. Whoever places his head upon this threshold, Places his foot upon the crown of time. He invites helpless intellect to this door, For helpless is whoever is left helpless away from this. I fear that due to ignorance and foolishness, You will suddenly falter on the Bridge of Sirat. Ignorance will hand you over to the Fire, Just to give you wild lettuce and poppy seeds. Have you seen the morsel of food that a man chews, From which a grain of wheat emerges? It has been exposed to locusts, birds, and beasts; It has witnessed the heat of the mill and the fire of the oven. It has set its foot under your millstone, For God, indeed God, preserved it. For the protection of wealth, life, and breath, He is sufficient for you, yet you say 'enough' of Him. I will tell you with intellect and awareness, If you would take my counsel to heart. When you acquire a dog and a chain, You bring defeat to the gazelle of the plains. Then with this belief and this sincerity, For the sake of livelihood and achieving deliverance, Your reliance upon the dog and the chain I see to be greater than upon the All-Hearing, All-Seeing. In this temple, the light of your faith Has been plundered by a piece of iron and a dog.
