Schizophrenia Patients' Family Members and Care Giver's Mental Health: Impact of Caregiver QOL on Patient Outcomes
A caregiver's quality of life (QOL) — including that of family members caring for a patient with schizophrenia — can affect the patient's own QOL and symptom severity. When caregivers experience poorer QOL, patients tend to show more severe psychotic symptoms and lower QOL, so poor caregiver QOL is not beneficial to the patient's rehabilitation. This link has led to growing attention on caregivers' own mental health and QOL as part of schizophrenia treatment.
