Shabestari's Concept of the Self ('I') in Golshan-e Raz

In Section 15 of Golshan-e Raz, Mahmud Shabestari explains that the individual self, or 'I' (man), is not an independent reality but merely an accident of the Absolute Existence. He employs the metaphor of a lattice in the niche of existence through which the single Divine Light shines. Therefore, the term 'I' ultimately points to the universal divine spirit rather than the physical or egoic self. Shabestari urges the seeker to transcend the illusion of individual separateness and recognize their true nature as a reflection of the Absolute.
