Social Milestones
Social milestones are normative events that are not necessarily universal across all cultures. Instead of being experienced by all individuals globally, social milestones affect most individuals within a particular culture. For example, the specific age at which children begin formal schooling is a culturally dependent social milestone; in some countries, children begin school around 5 or 6 years old, while in other countries, children often enter school at an advanced age, or face limitations or interruptions in their education. Additionally, UNESCO estimates that nearly 244 million of the world's school-aged children still do not have access to school (Antoninis, 2022).
