Concept

Species Differences in Audible Frequency Range

Audible frequency range is the span of sound frequencies a species can hear, and this range differs across species. In the textbook examples, chickens hear roughly 125125 to 20002000 Hz, mice hear roughly 10001000 to 9100091000 Hz, beluga whales hear roughly 10001000 to 123000123000 Hz, dogs hear about 7070 to 4500045000 Hz, and cats hear about 4545 to 6400064000 Hz.
