Spiritual Sovereignty through Gnosis (Marefat) in Abbasah's Discourse
In Farid al-Din Attar's 'Mantegh al-Tayr' (The Conference of the Birds), Abbasah's discourse in the Valley of Knowledge asserts that true kingship and spiritual authority ('saltanat') are attained exclusively through gnosis ('marefat') and the agonizing passion of divine love. The poem contrasts worldly kingdoms, which lead to eternal ruin if relied upon, with the enduring sovereignty of spiritual insight. Abbasah explains that even an atom of love's pain has the transformative power to elevate the seeker's state, declaring that anyone intoxicated by the realm of gnosis becomes a true sultan over the entire world.
