Stage 1 Sleep

Stage 1 sleep marks the transition from wakefulness to sleep and is characterized by a shift in brainwave patterns from alpha waves to theta waves. During this initial, light phase of NREM sleep, physiological processes like respiration and heart rate begin to slow, accompanied by a decrease in muscle tension and core body temperature. Individuals in this stage can be easily awakened.
