Structuring Options and the Cost of Doing Nothing
A recommendation becomes significantly stronger when a leader can see that alternatives were evaluated. A solid proposal should present two or three realistic options, explicitly including the option of doing nothing. For each alternative, the proposal must state the cost, the expected result, and the primary risk. Including doing nothing is essential because it informs the leader of the concrete consequences if they decline the request.
