Study on Low Serotonin and Violent Suicide Attempts in Depressed Patients

A classic study conducted in the 1970s highlighted the connection between serotonin levels and suicidal behavior. The research discovered that patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder who exhibited very low levels of serotonin were more likely to attempt suicide, and to do so more violently, than depressed patients with higher serotonin levels.
