توکل / Tawakkul (Trust and Reliance upon God)

Tawakkul is the Sufi station (maqam) of complete trust and reliance on God, in which the seeker renounces dependence on secondary causes (اسباب) and on human aid, resting entirely in divine provision. In this section of Kashf al-Mahjub, Abu Hamza al-Khorasani is presented as an exemplar of the station: 'اندر توکل قدمی تمام داشت'. Having fallen into a well and remained there three days and nights, he refuses to call out to passing travelers, reasoning that to seek help from anyone other than the Real (دون حق) would be a complaint against God's decree. The story functions as a concrete illustration from which the abstract station of tawakkul is learned, distinguishing genuine reliance on God from mere passivity or the use of ordinary means.
