In this allegory from Attar's Mosibat Nameh, Jesus falls asleep with a half-brick under his head as a pillow. Iblis appears and claims that because the brick is a worldly possession and the material world belongs to his domain, Jesus has entered his sphere of influence. Upon hearing this, Jesus immediately throws the brick away to rid himself of all worldly attachments. The story teaches that even a minor attachment to the material world can compromise spiritual purity and allow for devilish influence.
