The Allegory of Jesus and the Incurability of Foolishness
In Book Three, Section 117 of the Masnavi, Rumi employs the figure of Jesus to illustrate the spiritual danger and incurability of foolishness (احمقی, ahmaghi). Despite possessing miraculous powers to heal the blind, cure the deaf, and raise the dead, Jesus is depicted fleeing from a fool. When asked why he runs, Jesus explains that physical afflictions are mere trials that can be cured by divine grace, whereas foolishness is a manifestation of God's wrath that renders the heart impenetrable to spiritual healing. This allegory emphasizes that willful ignorance and stupidity are spiritual diseases that cannot be remedied even by a prophet's breath, warning learners against associating with fools.
