This concept distills the moral argument of Jami's Section 33. A generous man is counseled by advisers to restrain his open-handed giving and set aside a purse of dirhams as a store for his children before death carries him off (when the parrot flies from the cage of the body). The tale weighs prudent provision for one's offspring against boundless charity, and resolves the tension through reliance on God as the true Provider: once the heart is firm in trusting the Sustainer, one need not hoard out of anxiety for a child, for the creed 'sustenance is upon God' (al-rizq ala Allah) becomes the believer's qibla. It teaches that giving fairly while shutting the door on extravagance, and entrusting one's heirs to God, is superior to fearful accumulation.
