هر چه دهی از سر انصاف ده
قفل عدم بر در اسراف نه

بعد شکستن صدف خویش را
خوار مگردان خلف خویش را

بهره که دیدی ز خداوند خود
ساز ذخیره پی فرزند خود

تا چه بریزد صدفت زیر خاک
بهره ور آید ز تو آن در پاک

گفت که دارم سفری دور پیش
آنچه به دست است کنم زاد خویش

چون بپرد طوطی من زین قفس
بهره فرزند خداوند بس

دل چو قوی گشت به روزی دهم
از پی فرزند چه روزی نهم

جامی ازین به غم فرزند خور
زرد مکن روی وی از مهر زر

زآفت این رهزنش آگاه کن
قبله اش الرزق علی الله کن

دیده وری خواند به عقل سلیم
حرف فنا از ورق زر و سیم

خواست درین دایره تیز رو
سازدش از نقش بقا سکه نو

عقده ز همیان درم برگرفت
جلوه به میدان کرم در گرفت

بی درمان را درم اندوز ساخت
بی کرمان را کرم آموز ساخت

هر زر و سیمی که به درویش داد
آنچه طلب کرد بسی بیش داد

گفت فضولی ز کرم دست تنگ
کای شده پیش تو یکی سیم و سنگ

English translation

Whatever you give, give out of equity; Place the lock of non-existence upon the door of extravagance. After your shell is broken, Do not leave your successors humiliated. The bounty you have received from your Lord, Store it up for your child, So that when your shell crumbles beneath the earth, That pure pearl may benefit from you. [But] he said: 'I have a long journey ahead; I shall make whatever is at hand my own provision. When my parrot flies out of this cage, The portion of the child from the Lord is sufficient. When the heart is strong in the Giver of sustenance, Why should I set aside daily bread for my child? Jami, grieve for your child in a better way; Do not make his face pale out of love for gold. Make him aware of the calamity of this highwayman; Make his Qiblah 'Sustenance is from God.'' A visionary person with sound intellect read The word of transience from the leaf of gold and silver. He wished in this swift-moving circle To mint a new coin from the pattern of eternity. He untied the knot of the purse of dirhams, And his manifestation of generosity filled the arena. He made the helpless amassers of silver, And taught generosity to the ungenerous. Every gold and silver piece he gave to a dervish, He gave far more than what was asked. A tight-handed busybody, lacking in generosity, said: 'O you to whom silver and stone have become one and the same!'
