بخش ۲۶ - در ذکر قلبی آنان که دم از ذکر قلبی زنند و بر خود علامات آن نصب کرده آن را از قبیل ذکر خفیه شمارند و ندانند که آن نیز حکم ذکر جهر دارد بلکه ذکر جهر نیز از آن بهتر است زیرا که در ذکر جهر اصل ذکر متحقق است و احتمال غیر آن ندارد به خلاف ذکر خفیه / Section 26 - On the heart-remembrance of those who boast of heart-remembrance, attach signs of it to themselves, consider it a form of hidden remembrance, and do not know that it too has the ruling of loud remembrance; rather, loud remembrance is

Original content

English translation

And that other sheikh before the people of the world, Has made himself a banner for hidden remembrance. Eyes covered, lips sealed shut, Breath disconnected from letter and sound. Feet pulled into his skirt, head in his collar, Meaning: "I have fallen into the hiding place of the unseen. I have kicked my back and foot at this world, I have pitched my tent on the zenith of the placeless." If a dervish stirred from afar, A disciple secretly told him: "Go away, go away, lest from the abyss of the secret You bring him back to its shore." The poor sheikh himself, from illusion and fantasy, Is drowning in the sea of desires and hopes. Sometimes caught in the snare of thinking of a woman, Sometimes bogged down in grief for a child. Sometimes in thought of building a house, Taking himself up manfully. Sometimes pledged to the shop and the caravanserai, Running about to acquire wages. Sometimes by estimation and conjecture he measures The income of the bathhouse, mill, and millstone. Sometimes sunk into the qanat well, Watering grain fields and melon patches with its water. Sometimes at the hand of the evil-commanding self, Stepping outside the religious law. Gone by base ambition Into the sack of baseless imagination. Casting a glance at his wife and daughter, Drawing each of them separately to his breast. Reaching a hand to his son's double chin, To snatch one or two kisses from his sugar. He is in this occupation, and a world is deceived, Saying: "He is seated in the station of presence. His heart is remembering and lips are silent, While his lips are resting, his soul is boiling. He says the remembrance of God hiddenly, He walks the path of religion hiddenly. He does heart-remembrance with sincerity and purity, Not vocal like the remembrance of the people of hypocrisy." Justice against these foolish misguided ones, justice! Deviating from the path of intellect and rectitude. Which remembrance is here and who is the rememberer? What is it but the coming and going of random thoughts? An inner being like a hornet's nest, Which busybodies throw into a tumult. Every moment a thought like a hornet, That draws its sting on a naked body. Arrives venomous from left and right, Striking its wound without decrease or deduction. No undergarment from the robe of piety, No fortress from the protection of the Master. He suffers wounds but is numb, He is not aware that he has suffered wounds. At dawn, when from the sun of resurrection, Numbness is removed from his soul, The pain of those wounds will appear, His heart and soul will wear away from grief. So it is not remembrance, it is demonic whispering, It is not fatness, it is swelling. If there is also remembrance, it is loud, It is not an antidote, rather it is poison. Although he has closed his mouth from loud remembrance, He has set up a few signs for it. Eyes covered and lips silent, Head bowed down to his chest and shoulder. This is entirely lamentation and shouting: "That my litanies are hidden remembrance! From day to night I strive in remembrance, I hide the remembrance of God from the people." But there where the intellect is at work, This is not concealment, rather it is manifestation. Although he passed over one sign, He set up two hundred other signs.
