Section 42 - The King Examining Those Two Slaves

Original content

English translation

One day, the king, intending to hunt, Pitched his tent by a forest, away from the city and land. Because only in hunting can one Practice for combat, war, and battle. The work of the masters of the realm is not play, Play is not the custom of exaltation. The occupation of the wise is not amusement, And if it is, it is a trifle, rather an error. A fierce lion roared from the forest, Tearing the gallbladders of heroes from fear. It came and sat at the edge of the forest, Blocking all paths through the forest. The king said, 'Without a doubt, the time has come, For me to put those two coins to the touchstone. Until silver and gold are thrown into the crucible, How can the genuine be distinguished from the fake?' He called both forward and seated them before him, And brought up the matter of the lion before them. He said, 'Arise and prepare yourselves, And set out to do battle with it.'
