In this allegory from Section 9 of Attar's Mosibat Nameh, Shibli intervenes in a dispute between two children fighting over a walnut. When he breaks the walnut to divide it fairly, he discovers it is completely empty. A divine voice reprimands Shibli for presuming he could act as a divider or judge without true insight into the hidden reality of things. The story serves as a metaphor for the futility of worldly disputes, the emptiness of material attachments, and the danger of spiritual arrogance in assuming one can resolve matters without divine wisdom.
