The Allegory of the Ant and Human Greed in Asrar Nameh

In this section of Farid ud-Din Attar's 'Asrar Nameh', the tale of the ant serves as a powerful allegory for human greed and the futile hoarding of wealth. The ant meticulously gathers grains, far more than it can consume in a year, yet a sudden wind can sweep away both the ant and its hoard. Attar explicitly compares humans to this ant, noting that people often become trapped by their insatiable greed and attachment to worldly possessions. He warns that death arrives abruptly, stripping individuals of everything they have hoarded and cherished, thereby emphasizing the transience of material wealth and the ultimate uselessness of greed in the face of mortality.
