The Allegory of the Blind and the Paralyzed in Asrar Nameh

In Section 8 of Attar's Asrar Nameh, the tale of the blind man and the paralyzed man serves as a mystical allegory for the codependence of the body and the soul. The blind man possesses physical strength but lacks vision, symbolizing the body, while the paralyzed man has sight but no mobility, representing the soul or intellect. By combining their faculties, they manage to commit a theft but are ultimately caught and punished together. This parable illustrates how spiritual and physical transgressions are inextricably linked, and how both body and soul share the responsibility and consequences of their unified earthly actions.
