The Allegory of the Carefree Slave and Trust in the Divine Provider in Jami's Haft Awrang
In Section 4 of Jami's Haft Awrang (specifically within Selselat al-Dhahab), the story of a slave who remains joyful and carefree during a devastating famine serves as a key Sufi allegory for tawakkul (absolute trust in God). While others are dying of hunger, the slave remains fearless because he relies on his wealthy master's rich storehouses. Jami uses this comparison to demonstrate that if a human servant can achieve absolute peace of mind by trusting the finite wealth of a mortal master, a believer should have infinitely greater peace and security by placing their absolute trust in the infinite sustenance and mercy of the Divine Creator.
