The Allegory of the Cat of Death and the Mouse in Hadiqat al-Haqiqah

In Section 16 of Hakim Sanai's Hadiqat al-Haqiqah, the poet uses the zoomorphic allegory of a cat and a mouse to depict the inevitability of death. He frames death as a predatory cat (gorbeh-ye marg) with sharpened claws and teeth, constantly hunting humans, who are represented as vulnerable mice (mush). The allegory warns that just as a mouse is only safe in a narrow hole when the cat is on the prowl, humans must remain vigilant of their mortality and avoid being deceived by worldly distractions and greed.
