In Section 100 of Jami's Haft Awrang (Subhat al-Abrar), the poet uses the classic fable of a dog dropping its bone to grab its reflection in a stream as a spiritual allegory. Jami uses this story to critique worldly illusion and greed. The reflection represents the deceptive and non-existent nature of the material world (nist), which the seeker mistakenly perceives as real existence (hast). By chasing after these illusions of the physical realm, the individual ultimately loses the true spiritual reality (hast) that they already possessed.
