Section 100 - The Parable

Original content

English translation

A little dog was passing by with a bone in its mouth, making its way along the edge of a flowing stream. Because that water was so clear and bright, the reflection of that bone appeared in the water. The poor dog imagined that perhaps there was another bone in the water. As it opened its mouth toward it in haste, its bone fell from its mouth into the water. It imagined nonexistence to be existence; for that nonexistence, it lost what actually existed.
