The Allegory of the Lover and the Half-Brick in Mosibat Nameh
In this allegory from Attar's Mosibat Nameh, a lover about to travel for Hajj visits his beloved, who throws a half-brick at him. The lover cherishes the brick, kisses it, and wears it as a necklace, explaining to others that it is a precious keepsake. This story illustrates the Sufi concept of unconditional devotion, demonstrating that a true lover accepts and treasures whatever comes from the Beloved (God), even if it appears harsh or painful, recognizing it as a mark of divine attention.
