The Allegory of the Pious Woman's Trust in Divine Sustenance in Asrar Nameh

In Section 13 of Farid al-Din Attar's Asrar Nameh, an allegory is presented of a pious woman whose husband embarks on a journey, leaving her without provisions. When questioned about her destitute state, she demonstrates profound trust in God (Tawakkul). She asserts that she is not alone because she is in the presence of the Lord, and that while the 'consumer of sustenance' (her husband) has departed, the 'Provider of sustenance' (God) remains. This narrative illustrates the core Sufi ideal of relying entirely on divine providence rather than secondary, material agents.
