In Section 55 of Jami's Haft Awrang, a wise sage gives a woman a purse of silver. When he later asks what became of it, she reports that she divided it in two - one half spent on the wounded-hearted and needy, the other half saved for herself. The sage corrects her: her true portion is only what she gave away in charity, not what she locked in the treasury, for no one can know whether hoarded wealth will finally prove to be one's own share or the portion of others. The allegory teaches the Sufi principle that generosity transforms transient material wealth into lasting spiritual treasure, while stored-up riches remain uncertain and vulnerable to loss or inheritance.
