The Allegory of the Unveiling and the Layered Worlds in Asrar Nameh

This concept explores the allegory in Attar's Asrar Nameh where an old man prays for the spiritual veil (hijab) to be lifted. Once the veil is removed, he witnesses the universe layered like an onion, filled with chaotic, incomprehensible realities such as beings moving without heads or wings, and everyone utterly lost. The overwhelming nature of this vision causes him to lose consciousness. The parable illustrates the Sufi theme of hayrat (bewilderment), demonstrating that uncovering the sheer magnitude and complexity of hidden realities shatters limited human comprehension.
