The Allegory of the Wise Madman and the Flies in Asrar Nameh
In this section of Attar's Asrar Nameh, a parable is told about a wise madman ('majnun-e ma'ni') who is asked about the nature of the world and its people. He compares worldly affairs to 'doogh' (a yogurt drink) and the people of the world to flies swarming over it. This allegory illustrates the trivial, ephemeral nature of worldly pursuits and how human beings blindly flock to fleeting material distractions, forgetting their true purpose.
