The Authorial Dream as Consolation and Legitimation in Jami's Preface
In this section of Jami's Haft Awrang, the poet interrupts the preface with an account of a dream and his own interpretation of it. The clear road, the approaching royal procession, and the refuge offered by a lofty pavilion transform the poet's anxiety into reassurance. By presenting the vision as both a personal experience and an interpretable sign, Jami uses the dream to authorize continued composition and to frame poetic work within a providential and courtly order.
