بخش ۱۷ - اشارت به خوابی که ناظم در اثنای این دیباچه دیده و تعبیر آن چنانچه خود کرده آرمیده / Section 17 - Allusion to the Dream That the Composer Saw in the Midst of This Preface and Its Interpretation Wherein He Found Comfort

Original content

English translation

When I reached this point of the discourse last night, Sleep snatched me away in the midst of my contemplation. I saw myself on a very long path, Clean and bright like the conscience of the mystics. Neither did the wind raise any dust on it, Nor did water mix with its soil. In short, it was a path free of dust and mud, And I was walking on that path with an easy heart. Suddenly, the clamor of a roaring army Came to my ears from behind on that path. The shout of the heralds startled my heart, Took away my consciousness from my head and my strength from my feet. I was looking for a remedy to ward off harm, When a high palace met my eyes. As I hurried to seek refuge in it, In order to be safe from the harm of the army, From among them, the father of the king of the age, Who was Hasan in name, appearance, and character, With a steed of high heaven under his thigh, His face shining like the sun and moon upon it, Royal robes upon his body, With a camphor-white turban tied on his head, Turned his reins toward me, smiling and joyous, And opened the door of comfort to me with his laughter. When he reached me, he dismounted, Kissed my hand, and inquired of my well-being. I became delighted by the remedies he performed, Happy with the kindness he showed to this humble one. In speaking with me, he scattered many pearls, But none of them remained in my ears. At dawn, when I rose from my bed, I asked my intellect for the interpretation of this. It said: 'This grace and favor-seeking of the king Is a witness to the acceptance of your poetry. Do not remain silent from this discourse for a single breath; Since you have undertaken it, strive for its completion.' When I heard this interpretation from it, Like a pen, I girded my waist for writing, In the hope that from that very source where this dream arose, This interpretation will also come true.
