The Balance of Exertion and Divine Grace in Sanai's Allegory on Spiritual Struggle
In Section 43 of Sanai's Hadiqat al-Haqiqah, the interplay between human exertion (jahd) and divine grace (tawfiq) is explored through a dialogue between a disciple and an elder. The elder teaches that while human effort alone is insufficient to reach the divine, it remains a necessary prerequisite. The spiritual seeker must steadfastly fulfill the conditions of the religious law (shari'ah) and continuously strive, because divine grace is depicted as the natural companion and ultimate reward of sincere exertion.
