The Concept of Unsleeping Blood and Divine Justice in Rumi's Masnavi

In Book 3 of the Masnavi, Jalaluddin Rumi introduces the powerful concept of unsleeping blood (خون نخسپد) during the resolution of Prophet David's judgment. Rumi explains that shed blood does not rest; instead, it stirs a persistent spiritual agitation, curiosity, and desire for truth within the hearts of people ('خون نخسپد درفتد در هر دلی / میل جست و جوی و کشف مشکلی'). This collective urge to investigate and discuss the mystery is described as the metaphorical 'boiling of the blood' ('جوشش خون باشد آن وا جستها'). Through this concept, Rumi illustrates that divine justice is not merely an external intervention, but an active, spiritual force that works through human hearts and consciences to inevitably expose hidden crimes and restore cosmic balance.
