The Cosmology of Love and Divine Self-Manifestation in Jami's Silsilat al-Dhahab
In the prologue of the Second Book of the Silsilat al-Dhahab, Jami presents a Sufi cosmological framework centered on Divine Love ('ishq). He asserts that love is the key to the treasury of divine generosity and the primary force behind all existence, ruling over all levels of reality, from the lowest (safil) to the highest ('ali). According to Jami, creation initiated when the Divine manifested Himself to Himself (tajalli), discovering His unique Essence adorned with perfect attributes of majesty and beauty. This self-revelation inspired the cosmic love that brought forth the universe, demonstrating that all of existence is both created by and dependent on divine love.
