The Distinction Between Naming and Genuine Praise in Jami's Haft Awrang

This comic exchange distinguishes merely mentioning a person from genuinely praising that person. The poet writes only the king's name, while the king observes that meaningful panegyric must describe qualities such as justice, sovereignty, and noble conduct. Jami thus presents praise as a reasoned attribution of virtues rather than an empty use of an honored name.
