In Section 12 of the Silsilat al-Dhahab (within Jami's Haft Awrang), the author presents a cosmological classification of angels into two primary categories. The first order consists of the contemplative angels (associated with the Muhaimin), who are perpetually immersed in the witnessing of Divine Beauty and remain entirely unaware of the creation of the physical universe or humanity. The second order comprises the active or governing angels (mudabbir-i ashbah), who are tasked with administering the material realm, regulating the movements of the celestial spheres, and governing the actions of bodies and souls. This distinction highlights Jami's synthesis of Sufi cosmology and philosophical angelology, where spiritual beings bridge the gap between absolute divine transcendence and the operational mechanics of the cosmos.
