Section 12 - Allusion to the Existence of Angels

Original content

English translation

From what has been clearly manifest in knowledge, Know that the first class is the rank of angels. They are all obedient servants, Never turning their heads toward disbelief or rebellion. Neither described as female nor male, And always free from marriage. All protected from the blemish of obstinacy, Established in the station of 'they disobey not.' Some are permanently in the witnessing of Truth, Enraptured in His beauty and perfection, Unaware that in the dwelling of existence, There is a world and a human being exists. They do not cast their eyes upon other than the Truth, Nor do they occupy themselves with themselves or anyone else. Another category is the administrators of bodies, Acting in it morning and evening. Each one, according to destiny, Sovereign and managing within physical forms. The rotation of the heavens is from them, The movement of body and soul is from them. Not a single drop of rain falls From the cloud upon city, plain, and mountains, But that an angel accompanies it, To carry it exactly to where it must go. No fresh leaf grows from a branch In the meadows and vast forests, But that a host of angels, as it were, Has a role in its coming into existence. Of the angels, four are famous, Who are mentioned by their names: The revelation of scripture is the work of Gabriel, And the blowing of the Trumpet is from Israfil. The provider of sustenance is Michael, And the taker of souls is Azrael. Four others are appointed over humankind, Who are the scribes of good and evil. Two are with them by day and two by night, Taking their place on the right and on the left. The scribe of good is the one on the right, While the second records sin and transgression. They are able before human eyes To manifest themselves in various forms, Especially in the eyes of the guides of the paths, Namely the Arch-Prophets, prophets, and messengers.
