The Effect of Choosing Versus Receiving Feedback on College Students' Performance - Implications
An important takeaway is that having the choice of feedback seems to play an important role in performance, revision, time spent on a task, and enjoyment for college students. The choice of feedback serves as an important feature for educational environments which can be used to maximize performance and learning. This also reveals the importance of the self-determination theory, showing that autonomy-supportive activities can lead to intrinsic motivation for doing these activities. Even though no significant differences in outcomes were found between choosing and receiving feedback, using a certain level of critical feedback may make a difference in learning and performance, and these results indicate the need for more research on this topic.
