The Effect of Choosing Versus Receiving Feedback on College Students' Performance - Outcome Differences
There were no significant differences in revision between students in the choice and receive condition (p = .13). An independent-samples t-test was conducted to compare poster quality, poster ranking, and design duration between conditions, and there were no significant differences between students in the two conditions. Finally, an independent-samples t-test was conducted to compare enjoyment between the two conditions, and results showed that students in the choose condition enjoyed designing posters significantly more than students in the receive condition (p < .01). Enjoyment showed to be barely affected by the amount of critical feedback, except at the high end. In the choose condition, 76% of students reported 4 and 5 levels of enjoyment, as opposed to only 51% of students in the receive condition. These results show that enjoyment is positively associated with design duration (p = .03, rho = .37), but only in the choice condition.
